A week-long celebration with a traditional altar, commemorating loved ones, and learning about the cultural significance of Dia de los Muertos.

This fall, LSU School of Theatre and East Baton Rouge Libraries are proud to present Rosita y Conchita, a captivating children's play directed by Marina DeYoe-Pedraza.

The event includes altars, a Catrinas parade, live music, performances, a Catrina contest, artisans, local food vendors, and more.

A spectacular celebration to honor deceased loved ones and celebrate ancestral legacies. Families are invited to bring pictures, flowers, and mementos to place on a giant altar adorned with flowers, folk art, and “ofrendas.” Participants are encouraged to dress as Catrinas or Catrines. The event features a street market with traditional foods, face painting, handcrafts, art, and more.

This event fosters a profound sense of community and honors the beauty of life’s eternal cycle.

Join us for the 23rd Annual Day of the Dead Festival and concert on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 12 to 5 PM. Expect more dances, music, workshops, and a special guest performance by Alejandra Robles, one of Oaxaca’s greatest singers.

This event features live music from Veracruz, art-making activities, and a communal altar for families to honor loved ones.

The exhibition Día de Muertos, Where the Past Is Present honors the late Chicago muralist and painter Ray Patlán (1946-2024). Featuring nearly seventy works from the museum’s permanent collection, it highlights the collective spirit and creativity of various generations of popular artists. The exhibition also serves as a tribute to those who have died from violence. Curated by Dolores Mercado, the exhibition includes an installation titled El Camino de las Almas by Yollocalli Arts Reach, which explores the connection between life and the afterlife. Visitors are invited to participate in a community ofrenda by leaving messages, drawings, or memories of their loved ones.

The Festival includes: Mask-making, Community Altar, Face Painting, Artists Mercado, Art Activities 'La Procesión at Sunset,Barrio Bookmobile, Instrument Making, Print Making, and Instrument Petting Zoo. La Procesión is a celebratory procession in which the audience joins the performers in a candlelit, joyful burst of music, dance and remembrance. This audience favorite concludes with a minute of silence as the sun goes down in homage to those who have gone before us ~ our dearly departed.

The event features the opening of the exhibit “Arte de Inspiración: Dia de los Muertos 2024” with appearances by artists Krisztianna, Adrian Arias, and John Hancock & Juan Ramos. Attendees can enjoy performances by Maquilli Tonatiuh Aztec Dancers, the Latin dance tribute band Maya, and Ballet Folklorico de Sacramento, along with Sugar Skull Workshops and a Mercado de los Muertos. There will also be food, drinks, hands-on activities for kids, and a special group photo for costumed guests.

Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, along with the Cazateatro Bilingual Theatre Group, invites you and your family to honor your ancestors and celebrate the cycle of life and death. The festival at the Brooks will offer art-making activities, face painting, music, costumed performers, dance performances, and more!

Join us for an extraordinary FREE celebration of Dia De Los Muertos at Historic Congressional Cemetery. In collaboration with special guest and Capitol Hill resident, Rosa Moreno, we will transform the chapel in the center of our grounds into a place of learning, remembrance, and celebration of the “Day of the Dead."

This festival will take participants on a journey through the traditional roots of the holiday, teaching the significance of the various customs and traditions, expound upon the importance of unpacking grief through the empowerment and support of family and community, showing the ways this holiday can be celebrated cross-culturally, highlight various ways that anyone can get involved in giving back to the community, spread awareness of local community resources, and create the shared understanding that if we are all the same in death, then we must all be the same in life.

In partnership with the Mexican Cultural Institute, the family-friendly afternoon will include live music by La Unica, cultural performances, street food, a Modelo beer garden, face painting, sugar skull decorating, a community lantern procession, and more.

The 21st Annual Celebraciones de la Gente, in partnership with Flagstaff Nuestras Raices, celebrates Mexican, Mexican American, and Latin X traditions with vibrant Día de los Muertos festivities. Attendees can enjoy cultural dances, music, arts and crafts, traditional foods, and presentations, featuring performances by Mariachi Rubor Femenil and Ballet Folklorico de Colores. The event culminates in Courtyard After Dark, where glowing ofrendas, sweet treats, and a magical atmosphere await.

During this sacred time of year, thousands in South Florida honor their ancestors in a free event featuring over 100 performers of indigenous and traditional folk dance and music, culminating in a Skeleton Processional. Attendees can enjoy food trucks, face painting, craft booths, and fun activities for kids. The event also includes giant puppets, DJ music, and an Indie Craft Bazaar with over 50 regional handmade craft artists.

The celebration will explore the history and cultural traditions of Mexico through various activities. Attendees can enjoy live music by Mariachi Estrella KC, puppetry by Stone Lion Puppet Theatre, dance performances by Grupo Folklorico Izcalli, and free face painting for children. Additionally, participants are encouraged to bring items to contribute to the indoor and outdoor community altars.
